Magpie’s Cottage, surrounded by pristine oceans, majestic forests and world-class vineyards, nurtured a life-long connection between our family and the Margaret River wine region. ‘Birdhouse’ pays homage to the memories and history created within Magpie’s Cottage.

Dark plum with ruby hue.
NOSE
Ripe plum, violets and pepper.
PALATE
Dark berries, savoury spice, elegant tannins with a long fruit-driven finish.
WINEMAKING
Fruit was harvested when flavour, tannin and acid were all in balance. Fruit was fermented in two batches, one batch 100% whole berries, one batch 50% whole / 50% crushed. Wines were pressed off into tank, settled then transferred to French oak barrels. Careful barrel selection brought together rich fruit, firm tannins and a tight acidity to come together beautifully, producing a Shiraz of great structural integrity and one that will reward careful cellaring.
VINTAGE NOTES
2019 was a long, cool vintage. It started off with a cooler than average spring and summer and this followed through vintage. Canopy management and attention to detail were key to getting fruit ripe and avoiding disease. Yields were low across the board.
